Green Building

  • Texas Energy Systems (TES) provides Green Building Consulting and 3rd Party Performance Testing for above code programs including:

Green Building address the overall performance of a building based on the health, safety, comfort, durability and energy efficiency of the home.  Higher energy efficiency translates into lower energy consumption costs, higher indoor air quality, and a higher valued asset.

Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) is the nation’s most successful building program that requires higher standards of educating professionals and integrating sustainable practices into achieving a higher performance objective.

Energy Star certified Homes that earn the Energy Star must meet stringent energy efficiency requirements set by the EPA.  Energy Star certified Homes use 15%-30% less energy than typical new homes while delivering better comfort, quality and durability.   TES works with Energy Star builder partners to provide independent inspections and testing needed to meet the Energy Star requirements.  Our team conducts pre-construction review of home plans and conducts onsite inspections and testing of homes built to earn the Energy Star.

Energy Star Multifamily High Rise Program.  Our team works with developers, builders and licensed professionals to provide verification for the following systems:

    • Thermal Enclosure System
    • HVAC & DHW System
    • Lighting, Motors, Pumps, etc.

Energy Star certified high rise projects are verified to be at least 15% more efficient than a building built according to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Standard 90.1-2007.

HERS, or Home Energy Rating Systems, was developed by RESNET (Residential Energy Services Network). A HERS Index Score is similar to a miles-per-gallon rating on a car and provides an evaluation of an individual home’s energy-efficiency. A HERS report is prepared by a trained Energy Rater. Factors such as insulation, appliance efficiencies, window types, local climate, and utility rates are used to rate the home and calculate energy costs.

A comprehensive home energy rating analyzes the overall performance of the home.  The knowledge provided by a home energy rating can also be used to make smart improvements to your home. A comprehensive Home Energy Rating includes the following services:

    • Building envelope and duct system leakage testing
    • Thermal barrier inspection for heat loss/gain
    • Mechanical equipment inspection
    • Existing or potential combustion safety issues
    • Visual analysis of windows, doors, lighting and insulation
    • Return on investment of proposed improvements
    • Nationally Recognized HERS Index Score
    • Home assessment of renewable and efficiency improvements

TES is a certified Home Energy Rater and can collect data, run performance tests and generates a HERS Index Score on new construction and existing homes in a timely manner at competitive prices. A HERS Index Score can be used for marketing the energy efficiency of a home to potential buyers, qualifying for an Energy Efficient Mortgage and/or determining the cost-effectiveness of energy efficiency upgrades.
